Barn Owl
The Barn owl’s scientific name Tyto alba literally means, “white owl.” These amazing winged phantoms use their white plumage to shock their prey. Small animals such as voles, mice, and rats seem to startle and freeze when they spot this owl approaching, giving the owl more time to grab their dinner.
This owl is was being kept illegally as a pet and is far too accustomed to humans to survive in the wild. Imprinted wild animals may exhibit behavior such as seeking human interaction, following people around, or displaying a lack of fear towards humans. While this may initially seem endearing, it can lead to significant challenges for the animal’s welfare. These animals may struggle to properly interact with their own species, find it difficult to fend for themselves, and may face increased risks when released.
