Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake

Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes (venomous) hold the title of being the largest venomous snake in North America. Adults regularly reach lengths of up to 7 feet, and specimens exceeding 8 feet have been recorded.

Like other rattlesnakes, the Eastern diamondback possesses a unique rattle at the end of its tail. This rattle is composed of segments of keratin, which produce a distinctive buzzing sound when the snake vibrates its tail. The rattle serves as a warning signal to potential predators and is an iconic feature of this species.

Despite its intimidating size and venomous nature, the Eastern diamondback Rattlesnake is typically a docile and reclusive species.
