Red-tailed Hawk
This Red-tailed hawk was caught in chicken wire which caused permanent damage to its eye. The eye was surgically removed at our rehabilitation center. Releasing a hawk with one eye can be problematic due to a reduction in depth perception which may result in impaired hunting skills and lead to difficulty surviving in the wild.
The distinctive, piercing scream of the red-tailed hawk perfectly captures the essence of what a raptor’s call should be, or so Hollywood directors believe. In cinematic portrayals, whether it’s a hawk or eagle gracing the screen, the unmistakable shrill cry on the soundtrack is almost always that of a red-tailed hawk.
